A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, three months after leaving the African Democratic Congress. He also declared support for the party’s presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Anambra State Government has challenged former governor Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, accusing him of breaking key campaign promises on debt and timely payment of workers’ salaries.

The state government also released a document detailing salary arrears as it made its claims against the former governor.

3. Enugu gov names Nollywood’s Eucharia Anunobi, Rachael Okonkwo aides

Nollywood actresses Rachael Okonkwo and Eucharia Anunobi have been appointed as aides to Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.

Mbah approved the appointment of 101 aides across three categories, comprising seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants.

4. FULL LIST: UK removes Nigeria, Ghana from teacher qualification route

The United Kingdom Department for Education has excluded teachers trained in Nigeria, Ghana and India from using the route to apply for Qualified Teacher Status in England.

The change took effect on September 9, 2026, according to updated guidance published by the DfE.

6. Delta gov directs suspended commissioner to resume after 10 weeks

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has lifted the suspension of the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, directing him to resume office after completing 10 weeks from the date of his suspension.

Oborevwori announced this on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the Auditor-General and members of the governing councils of the University of Delta, Southern Delta University and Dennis Osadebay University.
