The family of former Kaduna State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition leader, Nasir El-Rufai, has given the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, seven days to provide evidence backing his allegation that the former governor planned killings in Southern Kaduna.

The family, in a statement signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on Monday, described the allegation as grave and unsubstantiated.

Musa, a retired general, reportedly made the allegation during a live appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television on September 3, 2026.

According to the El-Rufai family, the minister made the claim without presenting evidence to support it.

“While General Musa (Rtd.) is entitled to hold and express his personal opinions, the El-Rufai family is equally entitled to demand that such serious allegations be substantiated with credible evidence,” the statement said.

The family therefore challenged the minister to either produce evidence supporting the allegation or publicly retract it through the same medium where it was made.

“In the absence of such evidence, we call on him to publicly retract the allegation through the same medium on which it was made,” the family said.

It gave Musa seven days from September 7 to substantiate the claim or issue what it described as a “full public retraction and apology”.

The family warned that failure to comply would leave it with no option but to pursue legal action.

“Failure to do so will leave the family with no option but to pursue all appropriate legal remedies available under the law in response to these unsubstantiated allegations,” it said.

The statement was signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the El-Rufai family in Abuja.

The dispute adds a fresh political dimension to the increasingly heated exchanges between opposition figures and government officials ahead of the 2027 general elections.
