Court awards Kim Kardashian €1 over $6m Paris robbery

A Paris court on Tuesday awarded Kim Kardashian one euro ($1.15) in compensation after she was robbed at gunpoint in the French capital in 2016, the amount she had requested, according to a lawyer involved in the case.

Kardashian had been staying at the Hôtel de Pourtalès when two members of the robbery gang, dressed as police officers, forced their way into her suite, bound her with zip ties and tape, and stole more than $6m worth of jewellery.

As reported by The Associated Press on Wednesday, the court’s decision came after eight people were found guilty last year for their roles in the robbery, which Kardashian described as “the most terrifying experience of my life.”

Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, expressed gratitude to the French justice system in a joint statement.

“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.

“We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal,” the statement to AP read.

According to AP, the court also awarded 109,516 euros ($126,472) to a former receptionist at the hotel, according to his lawyer.

He had sought 550,000 euros ($634,868) in damages and interest over the trauma he suffered during the October 2, 2016, robbery.

The receptionist’s lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, welcomed the decision as a victory.

The court awarded one euro to Harouche, who was present during the robbery.

The robbers made away with more than $6m in jewellery, including a diamond ring Kardashian had worn that night to a Givenchy show.

The robbers became known in France as “les papys braqueurs,” or the grandpa robbers, because of their ages. Six of those tried were in their 60s and 70s and faced charges including armed robbery, kidnapping and gang association.

With time already served in pretrial detention, none of those found guilty returned to prison. None appealed the verdict.

Following their conviction, Kardashian said she was “deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case.”

“The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family.

“While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice and promoting a fair legal system,” the celebrity said.
