Canadian singer Celine Dion has drawn strong reactions after completing her first full concert in more than six years, delivering a 25-song performance in Paris despite the physical and vocal challenges associated with stiff-person syndrome.

According to reports, Dion performed for about two hours and 15 minutes at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, France, on Saturday, September 12, before about 30,000 fans.

One of the biggest moments came during the encore when Dion performed “All By Myself” and held a high F note, prompting a loud reaction from the audience. The performance marked the beginning of a 26-show Paris residency, with 16 performances scheduled across five weeks and another 10 planned for May 2027.

She became emotional during the opening of the concert, after previously promising herself she would not cry. She later told the audience that the tears were tears of joy.

The concert came after years away from full-length performances following her diagnosis with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and spasms and can affect the muscles involved in singing.
During the performance, she acknowledged the challenges she continues to face, while still performing several of her best-known songs, including “My Heart Will Go On,” “The Power of Love” and “All By Myself.”

Some songs were adjusted to accommodate changes in her vocal range, but she completed the roughly two-hour-15-minute show.

The performance also featured Catalani’s “Ebben? Ne andrò lontana,” a gospel choir, dramatic staging, pink feathers and artificial snow.

Dion appeared in a Dior gown and wore jewellery by Boucheron. Former US First Lady Michelle Obama was among those in attendance, while fans also gathered outside Dion’s Paris hotel.

She closed the concert with two songs associated with longtime collaborator Jean-Jacques Goldman before thanking the audience and telling them to take care of themselves.
