BURUTU, DELTA STATE — Tension has continued to rise in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State as youths protesting alleged poor governance and inadequate social services reportedly forcefully beached a boat belonging to the council chairman.

The development occurred amid days of protests by residents over what they described as poor leadership, inadequate healthcare services and worsening conditions across the local government area.

The protesters accused the council administration of failing to adequately address pressing concerns affecting residents, particularly in the areas of healthcare and basic infrastructure.

The youths and other residents have subsequently called on the Delta State Governor and the State House of Assembly to urgently intervene in the situation.

They are demanding the immediate suspension of the council chairman, alleging that his administration has failed to meet the expectations of the people.

The protesters appealed to the state government to investigate the allegations against the council administration and take appropriate action in the interest of Burutu residents.

The ongoing protests have heightened concerns about the state of governance in the riverine local government, with residents insisting that urgent measures are needed to restore confidence and address their grievances.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the council chairman or the Burutu Local Government Council regarding the allegations and the incident involving the boat.

TrackNews Online will continue to monitor developments as the situation unfolds.
