Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has been installed as the Sardauna of the Ilorin Emirate by the Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.

The colourful ceremony, held in Ilorin, attracted prominent dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, serving governors, traditional rulers, members of the business community and foreign guests.

Shettima, who arrived in Ilorin ahead of the ceremony, served as the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

Dignitaries and guests had earlier gathered at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport to receive the Vice President before he proceeded to other engagements in the state.

The Vice President also visited the Kwara Garment Factory in Ilorin, a facility with a stated capacity to employ about 4,000 people.

The installation brought together political leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to witness the conferment of the prestigious traditional title on the governor.

Emir Sulu-Gambari described the Sardauna title as recognition of AbdulRazaq’s contributions to the development of the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State.

AbdulRazaq becomes the second Sardauna of the Ilorin Emirate, succeeding the late business mogul, Alhaji Umar Saro.

The governor’s elder brother, Dr Alimi AbdulRazaq, is the Mutawali of Ilorin Emirate, succeeding their late father, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu AbdulRazaq.

The ceremony also provided an opportunity for dignitaries and members of the community to celebrate the relationship between the Ilorin Emirate traditional institution and the Kwara State Government.

The gathering further highlighted the continuing role of the emirate’s traditional institution in the social and cultural life of the state, as dignitaries joined the people of Ilorin to mark the historic conferment.
