87- Year-Old Man In Court For Attacking Judge With Cutlass…

An 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba of Korawa Village, Fufore Local Government Council of Adamawa state, has been arraigned before a Yola Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly attacking an Area Court judge with a cutlass and severing his hand.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 31, 2026, at the Mayo-Ine Area Court in Fufore, while the presiding judge, Dauda Hamman, was hearing a case involving Garba and one Ismail Yusuf.
According to the Adamawa State Police Command, Garba allegedly attacked the judge with a cutlass, repeatedly cutting his hand and inflicting grievous injuries on him.
The suspect was immediately arrested by police officers and initially taken to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Fufore, before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yola, on September 4 for further investigation and prosecution.
Following the conclusion of investigations, Garba was on Monday, September 8, arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I, Yola, presided over by Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng.
He was charged with a one count of causing grievous hurt, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

When the charge was read and interpreted to him, the defendant pleaded guilty and reportedly blamed the devil for his action, expressing regret over the incident.
The court subsequently, ordered that Garba be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearing.
The state Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, assured the public that the case would be diligently prosecuted to ensure justice is served.
