2027: Peter Obi not a threat – Gov Alia denies sponsoring thugs

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has denied allegations that he sponsored thugs to attack and block the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, from gaining access into Makurdi, the state capital.
Obi had in a viral video alleged that sponsored political thugs led by a special assistant to Governor Alia stopped him from visiting parts of the state.
Reacting, Governor Alia in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Tersoo Kula denied the allegation, stating that the former governor of Anambra State is not a threat to his re-election in 2027.
“Let it be known that Mr. Peter Obi is not a threat to Governor Alia in any way. Even if he actually visited the state, and we realized that he is a threat to anyone, the security agencies are there to handle the issue, not thugs,” the CPS said.
According to Kula, the allegations were unfounded, stressing that it was a desperate attempt to “drag Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Benue people into what may be an internal political matter within the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC”.
“We wish to emphatically deny that the government of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has an idea of what Mr. Obi is talking about,” he added.
