Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate stoppage of the use of green areas, parks and gardens in Abuja as car dealership lots.
Wike gave the directive as part of measures by the FCT Administration to address flooding in some parts of the Federal Capital City, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
The minister expressed concern over the conversion of areas designated for parks and recreation, including the Millennium Park and other green spaces, into car dealership lots.
He directed that the unauthorised use of such areas must stop immediately and ordered closer monitoring to ensure compliance with the directive.
The statement said, “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate stoppage of the use of green areas as well as parks and gardens in the capital city as car dealership lots.”
According to the statement, the directive is also aimed at protecting designated recreational spaces and improving the FCT Administration’s efforts to manage flooding in the capital.
To enforce the order, Wike has constituted a task force to monitor and ensure that the affected areas are no longer used illegally as car lots.

The minister also ordered an investigation into some civil servants allegedly responsible for granting illegal approvals for the conversion of green areas into car dealership lots.
“The Minister has directed the investigation of some civil servants responsible for granting illegal approvals authorising the use of green areas as car dealership lots,” the statement said.
The affected officials, particularly directors overseeing Parks and Recreation, Environmental Protection, Traffic Management and Urban Affairs, have been summoned by the FCT Head of Service, Nancy Sabanti Nathan.
The FCT Administration said the measures were part of its broader efforts to restore compliance with approved land-use regulations and protect green and recreational spaces within the capital city.
The directive takes immediate effect, with the newly constituted task force expected to ensure compliance across the affected areas.
