We’re attacking lifeblood of organised crime in West Africa – INTERPOL

The International Police Organisation, INTERPOL, has vowed to make it difficult for organized criminal networks to profit from their nefarious activities across West Africa.

INTERPOL’s Director of Financial Crime Centre, Tomonobu Kaya, disclosed that operatives are attacking the lifeblood of organized crime in West Africa.

In a statement, Kaya said INTERPOL has been following illicit financial flows across borders through an eight month operation codenamed Operation Jackal IV.

Kaya also disclosed that scams often targeted “retirees in English-speaking countries”.

“By following illicit financial flows across borders, we are attacking the very lifeblood of organised crime and making it increasingly difficult for criminal networks to profit from their activities.

“Operation Jackal IV demonstrates the power of international co-operation,” Kaya said.

Kaya said during the operation, INTERPOL helped with cross-border co-ordination and intelligence sharing.

The director further noted that the organisation also provided support and specialised training for money-laundering investigations in the participating countries.
