Nigeria’s Super Falcons will battle Egypt on Wednesday in a crucial Group C encounter at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with a place in the quarter-finals still hanging in the balance.
The nine-time African champions head into the final group game with three points from two matches after defeating Zambia before suffering a defeat to group leaders Malawi. The result left Nigeria second in the standings, level on points with Zambia but behind Malawi, who have won both of their opening matches.
Victory over Egypt would move Nigeria to six points and keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive, although their final position will depend on the outcome of the other Group C fixture between Malawi and Zambia.
If both Nigeria and Zambia win, the group will end in a three-way tie on six points involving Nigeria, Malawi and Zambia. In that situation, the rankings would first be determined by the mini-league involving the three tied teams, with goal difference and goals scored among the tied sides becoming decisive if necessary.

A draw against Egypt would leave the Super Falcons on four points and qualification would then depend on Zambia failing to defeat Malawi, while a defeat would eliminate Nigeria from the tournament.
Egypt, who are yet to register a point after losing their opening two matches, have already been eliminated but will be aiming to end their campaign on a positive note.
With qualification no longer entirely in their hands, the Super Falcons will be expected to secure all three points and hope results elsewhere favour their quest for a place in the WAFCON 2026 quarter-finals.
