Troops of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK)/Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), have arrested two suspected logistics suppliers to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an intelligence-led operation in Monguno, Borno State.
The suspects, identified as Bukar Kaka Modu, 30, and Abubakar Musa, 30, according to Security Publication Zaggazola Makama on X were apprehended at the C-19 checkpoint in Monguno on Monday following sustained surveillance aimed at disrupting terrorist supply networks, according to security sources.
The sources according to Makama said the suspects allegedly confessed during preliminary interrogation that they were transporting food items and other supplies to ISWAP fighters in Kwatan Dowoshi village in Kukawa Local Government Area.
Items recovered from the suspects included cartons and sachets of biscuits, a carton of milk, sugar, soap, headlamps, bags of garri, lighters, two mobile phones, an assault knife, herbal medicine, cash and other household items.
Troops also recovered what security sources described as an ISWAP-issued gate pass, believed to have been used to facilitate movement into areas under the group’s control.
The suspects and the recovered items have been taken to the Headquarters of Sector 3 for further investigation.
The arrests form part of ongoing operations by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle ISWAP’s logistics and supply chains, which the military considers crucial to sustaining the group’s activities in the Lake Chad region.
The claims by the security sources, including the suspects’ alleged confessions, could not be independently verified.
