Tinubu Approves Recruitment Of 3,252 PTA Teachers…

President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the federal civil service, bringing an end to years of uncertainty for thousands of educators who have served in Federal Unity Colleges without permanent appointments.
The approval was announced on Thursday, by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, who described the decision as a landmark intervention aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education sector and improving the welfare of teachers.
Alausa said the recruitment will prioritise verified PTA teachers, many of whom have spent between 10 and 25 years teaching in federal unity colleges and federal technical colleges despite not being on the government’s payroll.

According to the minister, the exercise followed a nationwide verification conducted by an inter-ministerial committee, which confirmed the eligibility of 3,252 teachers across teaching and technical cadres.
He explained that absorbing the teachers into the federal civil service would help bridge staffing gaps in federal schools, improve the teacher-to-student ratio, retain experienced educators and enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
The minister described the approval as a major achievement under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the Federal Ministry of Education would immediately begin the remaining administrative and statutory processes leading to the issuance of appointment letters.
For years, many federal unity colleges relied heavily on PTA-funded teachers to address shortages in teaching staff, with thousands of qualified educators performing the same duties as permanent teachers without enjoying job security or the benefits of public service employment.
Alausa commended Tinubu for prioritising education and reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare, stressing that a motivated and well-supported workforce is critical to building a stronger and more effective education system.
