TCN declares force majeure after three towers collapse on Birnin Kebbi-Niamey line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has declared force majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi-Niamey transmission line following the collapse of three transmission towers in Kebbi State.
TCN disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying towers T109, T110 and T111 collapsed at Chibike Village after heavy rainfall and a wind storm.
The company said the transmission line tripped at 5:38 p.m. on August 26, 2026, while a trial reclosure carried out at 6:03 p.m. was unsuccessful as the line tripped again immediately.
Following the incident, TCN said its linesmen embarked on a fault-finding patrol, during which they discovered the three collapsed towers.
According to the company, the incident has affected bulk power transmission to Niamey, Niger Republic, through the line.
TCN said it had mobilised personnel and resources to the affected site to facilitate the rehabilitation of the collapsed towers and restore the transmission line to service as soon as possible.
The company expressed regret over the disruption and assured customers in Niamey that every effort was being made to restore normal supply promptly.
