A cloud of grief has covered the Mwihoko community in Githurai Sub-county, Kiambu County, after a 20-year-old university student died under mysterious circumstances inside a bathroom.
The young woman, identified as Brendah Chepkemoi, was a student at Kiriri Women’s University. Her sudden death has left her family, friends, and fellow students searching for answers as police investigate what happened.
According to police, the incident happened on Friday afternoon at a residential building in Mwihoko Two.
At around 3 p.m., neighbours heard loud screams coming from one of the bathrooms. Concerned residents rushed to the scene and tried to get a response from inside, but no one answered.
After several failed attempts to open the door, they broke it down.
They found Brendah lying unconscious on the bathroom floor. Residents quickly rushed her to Sinai Medical Facility in the nearby Mwihoko Discovery area, hoping doctors could save her.
Sadly, she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Police officers from Mwihoko Police Station, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers visited both the house and the hospital to begin investigations.
Early findings showed that Brendah had entered the bathroom but had not undressed or started preparing for a shower before she suddenly collapsed. This has raised more questions about what caused her death.
Police also said there were no visible injuries on her body, suggesting there may not have been any physical attack before she died. Crime scene officers documented the scene as investigators worked to establish what happened.
Her body was later taken to Nairobi City Mortuary, where it is waiting for a post-mortem examination. The autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death and help investigators understand what happened.
Police have urged the public not to speculate while investigations continue. The sudden death of the young university student has left her family, classmates, and the Mwihoko community in deep sorrow as they wait for answers.
