Sergio Busquets Begins Coaching Career As Barcelona B Assistant

Sergio Busquets has taken his first step into coaching after returning to Barcelona as an assistant coach with the club’s reserve side, Barça Atlètic.

This was disclosed in a post by Fabrizio Romano on X saying, “Sergio Busquets makes first step in his new career as manager as he signs in as Barcelona B assistant coach.”

“Busquets will work closely with Juliano Belletti while he follows the process to get his coaching license.”

Busquets, 38, retired from professional football after the 2025 season following a two-and-a-half-year spell with Inter Miami. He had previously spent 15 seasons with Barcelona’s first team, establishing himself as one of the most decorated midfielders in the club’s history.

The former Spain international came through Barcelona’s youth system and played for Barcelona B before making his senior-team breakthrough in 2008. He went on to become a key figure in the club’s midfield during one of its most successful eras.

During his Barcelona career, Busquets won numerous major honours and formed a celebrated midfield partnership with Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta. He also played a significant role in the club’s Champions League triumphs and domestic title successes.

His move into coaching will now see him work with younger players at Barça Atlètic, allowing him to gain practical experience on the coaching staff while completing his qualifications.

Belletti, who previously played for Barcelona and scored the winning goal in the club’s 2006 Champions League final victory over Arsenal, has been in charge of Barça Atlètic since 2025. He also previously coached Barcelona’s Under-19 side.

Busquets’ return to Barcelona therefore marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club legend, who will now look to translate his extensive experience as a player into a career on the touchline.
