Security Agencies Must Inspire Confidence Ahead Of Osun Poll – Awotunde

Political affairs analyst Ladi Awotunde has called on security agencies to reassure Osun residents that they can vote safely during the August 15 governorship election.

Appearing on Beyond the Headlines, Awotunde said repeated allegations and counter-allegations between the major political parties had heightened public anxiety and placed greater responsibility on law enforcement agencies.

He urged the police, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to remain neutral throughout the electoral process.

“The police need to stand above board. All the security architecture must do its job and make sure people feel confident that they can walk freely to polling units.”

Awotunde said voters should not have to fear intimidation, violence or attacks while exercising their democratic rights.

“People need to know that they are going out and they will come back to their homes safely. Nobody should attack them on the road or at the polling unit.”

He also appealed to political leaders to moderate their rhetoric and ensure that the election is decided through the ballot rather than violence.

“We are all humans. It shouldn’t happen. This is 2026. We need to understand that human life is sacred.”
