The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi, have felicitated with sons and daughters of Yorùbáland and custodians of the region’s indigenous heritage as they celebrate Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day.

Sanwo-Olu called on Lagos residents to preserve and pass on the cultural values and traditions of their heritage to future generations.

In a statement via his X handle, the governor said the annual celebration provided an opportunity for Lagosians to reflect on the importance of preserving their cultural roots.

“Today, we celebrate Isese Day, honouring our heritage, traditions and the rich cultural identity passed down through generations. Our culture is an important part of who we are, and we must never lose sight of the values and traditions that connect us to our heritage,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu said preserving cultural traditions was a collective responsibility, particularly to ensure that future generations remained connected to their roots.

“We have a responsibility to preserve them and pass them on to future generations,” the governor said.

Obasa, in a post on his X account, extended his greetings to traditional institutions, cultural enthusiasts and others who value the rich traditions and heritage of the Yorùbá people.

The post reads, “I warmly felicitate with all sons and daughters of Yorùbáland, custodians of our indigenous heritage, traditional institutions, cultural enthusiasts and all who cherish the rich values and traditions of our people on the occasion of Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day.

“Ìṣẹ̀ṣe celebration is a reminder of our roots, our identity and the enduring wisdom of our forebears. It represents a heritage built on respect, communal values, cultural pride and reverence for the traditions handed down through generations. As we celebrate today, may we continue to preserve the beauty of our culture, uphold its noble values and pass them on proudly to generations yet unborn.”

Yayi, in his message, said, “As we commemorate Isese Day 2026, we extend our warm felicitations to traditional religion practitioners and the entire people of Ogun State, particularly our sons and daughters who continue to uphold and preserve the rich cultural heritage, traditions and values handed down to us by our forebears. Our culture remains an important part of our identity as a people. Beyond the celebration of tradition, Isese Day offers another opportunity to appreciate the religious diversity of our society and reaffirm our collective commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and tolerance.

“As we celebrate, we urge everyone to continue to promote those values that unite us and strengthen the bonds that have sustained our communities for generations.”
