Real Madrid: Courtois opens up on Mourinho’s approach, working with ex-Chelsea boss again

Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has opened up on the rigorous approach of the club’s new coach, Jose Mourinho, referring to it as “the right path” to achieving glory.

Courtois recently returned to individual training with Real Madrid ahead of schedule, a strategic decision aimed at ensuring his complete recovery from the injury sustained during the World Cup quarter-final against Spain.

In an interview with Real Madrid’s television channel, Courtois disclosed that he resumed training early last Friday and continued with individual exercises on Sunday while his teammates took a break after their match against Ferencvaros.

He wants to ensure his physical readiness before rejoining team practices.

Courtois said, “I returned a bit early because, due to the injury, I wanted to ensure I was entirely fit through individual training before reuniting with the team. Today I focused on goalkeeping drills and felt excellent, overjoyed to be back.”

His admiration for the new coach was evident. Courtois described Mourinho as “an exceptionally strict coach” who prioritizes discipline and the team over individual players, asserting that these traits are crucial for success.

He added, “He is a fantastic coach, and his demeanor is very approachable. He speaks the truth as it is, which I appreciate. I believe this is the direction we need to pursue.”

The two share a long history. Courtois and Mourinho experienced a fruitful period together at Chelsea, where they secured the Premier League title.

The prospect of working with the Portuguese coach again clearly excites the Belgian goalkeeper.

He said, “I have fond memories with him, and we hope to collaborate effectively and enjoy wonderful years here.

“If we push ourselves too hard at the start, we risk early injuries.

“We will quickly regain our fitness because we did not have an extended break, and we will be in good shape,” he said.
