Police Repel Terrorist Attack, Recover Ammunition, Rescue Kidnap Victims In Nationwide Operations

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a series of security breakthroughs across 11 states, including the repelling of a terrorist attack in Borno, the recovery of hundreds of rounds of ammunition in Nasarawa, the rescue of kidnap victims, and the arrest of suspected kidnappers, cultists and armed robbery suspects.

In an operational summary covering August 1 to 2, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Iniedu Okonokon, said combined security forces successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a local government secretariat in Borno State, restoring normalcy while clearance operations continue to track fleeing attackers.

In Zamfara State, joint security operatives neutralised several suspected bandits during a gun battle and arrested a suspect allegedly transporting communication gadgets to criminal groups.

Police also intercepted two female suspects in Nasarawa State who were allegedly transporting 551 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 10 loaded magazines and other ammunition.

The suspects reportedly confessed, with investigators expanding efforts to identify other members of the network.

In Rivers State, three suspected cultists were arrested over the earlier killing of two police officers, while two stolen police AK-47 rifles were recovered.

Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend another suspect.

In Imo State, operatives arrested a suspected native doctor allegedly linked to IPOB/ESN activities and another suspected cultist during a raid on a cult initiation camp.

Two Beretta pistols, a locally made pistol and live ammunition were recovered.

The police also reported the rescue of a kidnapped motor boy in Kaduna State after a gun battle with suspected bandits, while four kidnap victims were rescued during bush-combing operations in Kogi State and reunited with their families.

In Enugu State, five suspects were arrested with firearms, live cartridges and motorcycles during a joint security operation, while an abducted church official was rescued.

Search operations are continuing for other victims.

Detectives in Anambra State arrested a suspected kidnap and armed robbery suspect allegedly linked to several abductions.

Police said mobile phones containing videos and operational voice notes were recovered from the suspect.

In Taraba State, police arrested a suspected kidnapper believed to be linked to a notorious criminal gang, while in Akwa Ibom State, four suspects were arrested during a raid on a criminal hideout where suspected illicit drugs were recovered.

Two other suspects were arrested in connection with a separate kidnapping investigation.

The police said investigations were ongoing in the affected states as operations continue to dismantle criminal networks and apprehend fleeing suspects
