Key Highlights

  • The Nigeria Police Force has launched an internal investigation into AIG Moshood Jimoh over corruption allegations.
  • AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of an administrative review.
  • Social media personality Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan) has also been invited to provide evidence supporting his allegations.
  • The police said the related criminal case has already been investigated and is currently before a competent court following legal advice from the DPP.
  • The FCID, Abuja, issued an official invitation to VeryDarkMan on July 30, 2026.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police confirmed that AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of an administrative review, while VeryDarkMan has also been formally invited to provide evidence to support the claims he made publicly.

The Force explained that the criminal case linked to the allegations had already been investigated and is currently before a competent court based on legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

It stressed that, in line with legal and ethical standards, it would refrain from commenting on issues before the court or allowing media narratives to interfere with the judicial process.

According to the statement, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, issued an official invitation to VeryDarkMan on July 30, 2026, requesting his appearance to substantiate the allegations contained in his social media posts.

The police said the decision to investigate the matter underscores its commitment to accountability and transparency, emphasising that no officer is above scrutiny regardless of rank.

For weeks, VeryDarkMan has publicly accused AIG Jimoh of corruption, alleging that while serving as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, officers under his command wrongfully implicated businessman Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi in two separate murder cases in the Eti-Osa area of Lagos.

According to VDM, suspects initially confessed to one of the killings without mentioning Akanbi, but later statements allegedly linking the businessman to the crimes were obtained through coercion and torture.

He has repeatedly challenged the police to release the suspects’ original statements and maintained that he should face legal consequences if his allegations are proven to be false.

Reaffirming its position, the Nigeria Police Force acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens to demand accountability and express their opinions. However, it cautioned that freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly and should not be used to circulate unverified allegations or defame individuals.

The Force added that any officer found culpable after the investigation would face appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with established procedures. It also warned that individuals who deliberately make false accusations with the intent to damage another person’s reputation could face legal consequences.

The police urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation from the FCID and allow both the administrative inquiry and the ongoing court proceedings to run their course in line with due process.
