The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has apologised to aggrieved members and stakeholders in Oyo State over disagreements arising from the party’s recent primary elections.

Yilwatda made the appeal during the inauguration of the APC campaign office in Ibadan, where he urged members who felt excluded, disadvantaged or otherwise aggrieved during the primaries to forgive the party and work towards unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The national chairman said the APC took responsibility for the outcome of the primaries, stressing that the committee that conducted the exercise was constituted by the national leadership.

“This is not for Oyo State alone. Anywhere anybody made a mistake in a state, it is our mistake because the committee was set up by us and they are representing us.

“If anybody is hurt, if anybody is injured, if anybody is prevented or excluded in any form or the other, we take responsibility. On TV, before Nigerians, we take responsibility for all that has happened. I appeal to everybody that we are sorry,” Yilwatda said.

He urged members at the polling unit, ward and local government levels to treat the disagreements as an internal family matter and prioritise reconciliation and unity.

Yilwatda also assured Oyo APC stakeholders that the national leadership was taking the state seriously because of its strategic importance and large voting population, which he said was second only to Lagos State.

The APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, commended the national chairman for fulfilling commitments made during his engagement with governorship aspirants and other stakeholders.

Alli said Yilwatda’s intervention had produced significant progress within two days, describing the development as beyond what stakeholders had previously been able to achieve.

“We cannot thank you enough for what you have come to do. What you have achieved successfully in two days, we have not been able to accomplish,” Alli said.

He assured the national chairman that the Oyo APC would continue to work towards strengthening the party and securing victory in the 2027 elections.
