The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected by registered voters ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

 

 


The figure represents 81.50 per cent of the 2,339,233 registered voters in the state, according to a statement issued on Thursday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee.

 

INEC said 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent of registered voters, remained uncollected and had been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in line with its established practice.

 

“Out of the total of 2,339,233 registered voters in the State, 1,906,390 PVCs, representing 81.50 per cent, have been collected,” the commission said.

 

It added: “The remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, have been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in line with the Commission’s established practice.”

 

The commission also disclosed that 6,101 voters who applied for replacement of damaged, defaced or lost PVCs had printed downloadable copies of their cards.

 

“A total of 6,101 among those who applied printed downloadable copies of their PVCs,” INEC said.

 

The commission said a detailed breakdown of collected PVCs, polling unit by polling unit, had been published on its website.

 

With campaigning scheduled to end at midnight on Thursday, the final PVC figures come as political parties make their last appeals to voters ahead of Saturday’s election.

 

The poll is expected to be keenly contested, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term and APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji challenging to take control of the state.

 

INEC said it was fully prepared to conduct the election despite concerns over political violence and the credibility of the process.

 

“The Commission reassures political parties, civil society organisations, media, and the good people of Osun State of its total readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive election on Saturday, 15th August 2026,” Haruna said.

 

The commission urged stakeholders and voters to support a peaceful electoral process as attention now shifts from campaigning to voting on Saturday.
