Osun Governorship Election: Sorting, Counting Of Votes Begin

Sorting and counting of votes have commenced at some polling units across Osun State as the governorship election enters the final stage at locations where voting has ended.

TVC News reporter Olaide Oyewole, reporting from Ile-Ife, confirmed that sorting and counting had started at some polling units, while voters in other locations were still completing the voting process.

In Osogbo, the state capital, reporter Femi Akande also reported that sorting had commenced at some polling units.

At the polling units where voting has ended, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission have begun the prescribed process of sorting and counting the ballots.

INEC officials have also taken steps to invalidate unused ballot papers, in line with the provisions guiding the electoral process.

The simultaneous counting at polling units means voters and party agents are now beginning to see the first indications of how the closely contested election is shaping up.

The election is widely regarded as a tight contest between incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, with African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam seeking to emerge as a significant third force.

The poll has generated considerable interest as one of the key off-cycle elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Attention is now shifting from voting to the counting and collation of results, with party agents and observers expected to monitor the process closely as the ballots are counted and results declared at polling units.
