The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a decisive victory at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in Ilesa, in the ongoing 2026 governorship election.

The APC garnered 256 votes at the polling unit to comfortably defeat the Accord Party, which recorded 43 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed third with 13 votes.

The result is particularly notable given Aregbesola’s political influence as a former governor and prominent figure in Ijesaland.

His polling unit had attracted significant attention during the election, with political observers keen to see how the major parties would perform in the area.

The APC’s 213-vote lead over Accord represents a strong showing for the party, with its total votes also surpassing the combined 56 votes secured by Accord and ADC.

Earlier, Aregbesola arrived at the polling location to exercise his franchise, drawing the attention of voters, journalists and political observers at the unit.

The outcome adds to the political intrigue surrounding Ilesa, one of the areas being closely monitored in the governorship contest because of its strategic importance to the overall election.

However, the result from a single polling unit does not determine the final outcome of the election, as results from other polling units, wards and local government areas will be collated before the winner is declared.
