Voting has commenced across Osun State as residents turn out to elect the governor who will lead the state for the next four years.
Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is facing a strong challenge from All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, Najeem Salaam and other contenders, has cast his vote in his hometown, Ede.
A TVC News reporter, Olamide Adeyemi, reports that Adeleke arrived at his polling unit in a black bus, dressed in white traditional attire and his trademark cap.
The governor exchanged pleasantries with voters before proceeding through the accreditation and voting process.
Other voters at the polling unit also joined the queue to cast their ballots.
Across the state, reports indicate that voting has commenced at several polling units.
From Osogbo, TVC News reporter Femi Akande reported that voting began at about 8:30am, in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s directive for the commencement of the exercise.
In Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, where APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji hails from and is expected to vote, reporter Rafiu Hammed also reported that voting commenced as scheduled.
Similarly, Olaide Oyewole, reporting from Ife, said voting also started on schedule in the area.
Reports from other parts of the state indicate that the electoral process is progressing, with voters turning up at polling units to exercise their franchise.
Accreditation and voting are taking place simultaneously and are expected to continue until 2pm, or until the last voter on the queue at each polling unit has cast their ballot.
Attention now shifts to voter turnout, the conduct of the process and the eventual counting and collation of results across Osun’s 30 local government areas.
