One killed, three injured as gunman opens fire at marriage ceremony in Kano

One person has been killed and three others injured after a man allegedly opened fire during a marriage ceremony, popularly known as a “DJ,” in Kano State.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying it occurred on August 16 at Tudun Yola.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, said police arrested a 34-year-old suspect, Rabiu Mukhtar, in connection with the shooting.
According to him, the suspect allegedly used a pump-action gun to fire at four people, leaving them injured. The weapon was subsequently recovered from his possession.
The victims were identified as Sadiq Abubakar, Umar Rabiu, Muhammad Sadisu and Aliyu Mustapha. They were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for treatment.
Haruna-Kiyawa said Aliyu Mustapha later died from his injuries, while the other three victims were responding to treatment.
He added that the suspect and another individual were arrested and detained at the command headquarters in Bompai for investigation.
The police spokesman said preliminary findings indicated that the incident was triggered by the playing of music, which some individuals objected to.
He further explained that the suspect told investigators that he opened fire after receiving information that suspected thugs, locally known as “Yan Daba,” were heading to the venue.
Haruna-Kiyawa assured that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.
