The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has banned the consumption of alcoholic drinks within the palace, declaring that only activities consistent with the worship of God would be permitted in the royal premises.

The monarch made the announcement in a viral video circulating on social media, where he said the palace must remain a sacred place to encourage spiritual growth and ensure prayers are answered.

Addressing those present, the traditional ruler said, “We keep telling our people to make this palace holy, I don’t want any alcoholic drink in this palace, anything that doesn’t align with God should leave this palace.

“We call this place ‘Aafin Olodumare’ (Palace Of God), there’s a mosque here, and we want our prayers to be answered, we are doing this for ourselves before prayers are being answered and before you can make a place holy, it must start from oneself.

“Please, it is because of you, if you know you want to drink, please take it outside, just drink it outside or somewhere else.”
