Olaiya Igwe, Fathia Balogun Others Arrive Ilaro For Ogogo’s Burial

Nollywood veterans Mister Latin, Dele Odule, Olaiya Igwe, Fathia Balogun and Kolawole Ajeyemi have arrived in Ilaro, Ogun State, to pay their final respects to late Yoruba film icon Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, as his burial rites get underway.

Their arrival adds to the gathering of prominent figures from the Yoruba film industry who have converged on the deceased actor’s hometown to honour his memory and accompany his family through his final rites.

Earlier, veteran actors Yinka Quadri and Jide Kosoko arrived in Ilaro as the burial procession began. Their arrival was followed by that of other colleagues, including Ireti Osayemi and Bisi Omo Logbalogba, who joined family members, friends and well-wishers at the ceremony.

The burial is taking place on Monday, August 24, in accordance with Islamic rites, following Ogogo’s death on Sunday at the age of 66.

TVC News earlier reported that a lying-in-state ceremony was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Pavilion in Ilaro, while the Ilaro Muslim Community announced that the burial prayer would take place at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground.

Ogogo’s remains were taken to Ilaro on Sunday after his death, ahead of the final rites. The actor’s passing has triggered an outpouring of grief across the Yoruba entertainment industry, with colleagues mourning a career that spanned more than four decades and saw him become one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language cinema.

The late actor died after battling stage-four cancer. His family had recently appealed for medical assistance as his condition deteriorated, with his daughters revealing that doctors had indicated that chemotherapy could no longer be administered.
