The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges during a follow-up operation in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babasiyi, noting that the Command urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police by reporting suspicious persons, movements and activities in their communities. Members of the public can contact the police through the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, or the emergency lines 09164859299 and 09154293464.

The suspects, identified as Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48, were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Robbery Team over their alleged involvement in armed robbery, carjacking and unlawful possession of firearms.

The latest breakthrough followed sustained tactical intelligence and operational follow-up after the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix linked to an armed robbery incident reported in April 2026.

According to the Command, operatives continued to work on leads generated from the initial incident and eventually tracked the suspects to their respective hideouts in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road, Ota, Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.

Preliminary investigations, the police said, revealed that the two suspects allegedly worked with other members of their gang to mastermind the April robbery and were also involved in a series of armed robbery operations and violent vehicle snatching incidents across Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan areas of Ogun State.

A search conducted following their arrest led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.

The police added that the suspects, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to their involvement in several armed robbery operations within the region and were providing detectives with information expected to assist the ongoing investigation.

The Command said efforts had been intensified to identify, locate and arrest other members of the syndicate who are still at large for possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its “tenacity, operational efficiency, and commitment to follow-up investigations.”

Ojajuni said the recovery of the firearms and arrest of key members of the alleged syndicate demonstrated the Command’s determination to pursue criminal investigations to their logical conclusion.

He assured residents that the police remained committed to dismantling armed robbery networks and ensuring that Ogun State remained “unsafe for criminal elements.”
