NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Misconduct, Unauthorised Travel

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned corps members against misconduct and actions capable of tarnishing the image of the Scheme and the country during their service year.

According to a statement was signed by Caroline Embu, Director, Information and Public Relations, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two corps members deployed to Kano and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Karaye, Kano State.

Nafiu urged the corps members to conduct themselves in accordance with the NYSC bye-laws and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stressing that offenders would face appropriate sanctions.

“You are expected to become brand ambassadors, representing the NYSC, your families, and the institutions you graduated from,” he said.

The Director-General said any corps member who engaged in conduct capable of damaging the reputation of the NYSC or the nation would not be spared under the relevant provisions of the NYSC bye-laws.

He also urged the corps members to apply the knowledge acquired during their education to think logically and creatively and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Nafiu advised them to use their service year productively by engaging in activities that would improve their skills and prepare them for life after the programme.

“Don’t waste your time. Upskill yourselves, find out those skills that are essential in line with your course of study and acquire them,” he said.

He further urged the corps members to promote positive content that would showcase the culture and values of their host communities and the NYSC Scheme.

The NYSC DG also cautioned corps members against travelling outside their states of service without approval from the appropriate authorities.

He said corps members who needed to travel outside their state of service for any reason must first obtain approval from the NYSC State Coordinator.

“For those who may have reason to travel out of Nigeria during the service year, the law says you must obtain permission from the NYSC Director General,” Nafiu said.

He wished the corps members a successful orientation course and an eventful service year, urging them to take full advantage of the opportunities available during their service.

In her situation report to the Director-General, the NYSC Kano State Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Abdulkarim Abubakar, said 2,428 corps members had been registered for the orientation exercise in the state.

She said the figure comprised 1,024 males and 1,404 females, adding that the corps members had demonstrated loyalty and dedication while adapting to the regimented camp environment.

According to her, teamwork among camp officials had also provided the foundation for effective service delivery throughout the orientation exercise.
