NYSC Makes NERD Clearance Mandatory

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members must obtain clearance through the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) before they can be mobilised for national service.

The directive was contained in a public notice posted on the scheme’s official X account as preparations intensify for the next batch of prospective corps members.

According to the NYSC, NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members, warning that those who fail to complete the process will not be mobilised.

“This is to inform prospective corps members that without NERD clearance, there will be no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early to avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.

The NYSC further reiterated that the verification process is mandatory for every prospective corps member, stressing that compliance is essential for participation in the national service programme.

Although the scheme did not provide further details on the clearance process, the directive signals stricter verification measures ahead of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ mobilisation exercise.

The announcement comes shortly after the NYSC called on tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all necessary documentation for the upcoming orientation programme.

The scheme had also recently advised prospective corps members to avoid travelling at night while heading to orientation camps, urging them to break their journeys where necessary and seek accommodation in safe locations or designated military and security formations instead of travelling after dark.

The NYSC said the measures are aimed at strengthening the integrity of the mobilisation process while enhancing the safety of prospective corps members during their journeys to orientation camps.
