NYSC Makes NERD Clearance Mandatory for Prospective Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members will no longer be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).

The directive comes as the scheme intensifies preparations for the mobilisation of a new batch of prospective corps members while strengthening its verification process ahead of the orientation exercise.

In a public notice shared on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC stated that NERD clearance has become a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members.

The scheme urged applicants to complete the clearance process early to avoid delays in their mobilisation.

It warned that anyone who fails to obtain the clearance would not be eligible for mobilisation into the national service programme.

“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme said.

Reiterating the directive, the NYSC added: “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”

Although the scheme did not provide further details on the clearance process, the directive signals tighter verification measures ahead of the next orientation exercise.

The announcement comes shortly after the NYSC commenced mobilisation activities for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the orientation camp.

It also follows a recent travel advisory in which the scheme warned prospective corps members against travelling at night to their orientation camps.

The NYSC advised them to break their journeys where necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and security formations instead of travelling after dark.

The latest advisories underscore the scheme’s efforts to strengthen the integrity of its mobilisation process while enhancing the safety of prospective corps members amid growing security concerns across the country.

With mobilisation activities underway, prospective corps members are expected to complete all required registration and verification procedures, including the newly mandated NERD clearance, before reporting to camp.
