NITDA Signs National Sovereign Cloud Initiative Framework

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed into effect the framework for Nigeria’s National Sovereign Cloud Initiative (NSCI), a move aimed at strengthening the country’s digital sovereignty and cloud infrastructure.

NITDA announced the development on Tuesday, saying the initiative establishes unified regulatory guidelines, technical standards and investment roadmaps for key areas of Nigeria’s digital economy.

The framework covers Cloud Service Providers, data centres, artificial intelligence infrastructure and government digital assets.

According to NITDA, the initiative is designed to build a more resilient, secure and investment-ready digital ecosystem for the country.

The agency said the framework would provide greater data sovereignty and security while creating regulatory certainty and clear technical standards for stakeholders.

It will also provide a strategic roadmap for investments in artificial intelligence and sovereign cloud infrastructure.

NITDA said the initiative is expected to contribute to Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a trusted digital hub for Africa.

“Building a resilient, secure, and investment-ready digital ecosystem” remains central to the initiative, the agency said.

NITDA urged stakeholders, businesses and public institutions to familiarise themselves with the newly approved frameworks.

The agency said four newly signed frameworks are available for download through its official website.
