The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigerian Navy have renewed their strategic partnership to strengthen maritime security, safety, intelligence sharing and coordinated enforcement across Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.
The agreement marks the first formal renewal of the partnership between both institutions since 2007 and is aimed at deepening cooperation in tackling security threats and improving safety across the nation’s waters.
The renewed MoU also strengthens collaboration under the Suppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences (SPOMO) Act, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and other relevant maritime laws.
It further integrates the Deep Blue Project into the joint maritime security framework, providing a stronger basis for coordinated operations and information sharing between NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy.

Mobereola commended the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for championing inter-agency collaboration in support of maritime security and the development of Nigeria’s Blue Economy.
