Nigerian Shippers’ Council Moves to Kick Off Tsamiya Inland Dry Port Project in Kebbi

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has intensified efforts toward the commencement of the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port project in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, following a high-level meeting with Governor Nasir Idris.

The meeting, held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, focused on the progress made so far and the remaining steps required for the take-off of the landmark project, which is expected to transform trade and logistics in the state and the wider North-West region.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima, described the discussions with Governor Idris as productive and encouraging.

He explained that the meeting followed an earlier inspection visit by officials of the council to the proposed project site at Tsamiya.

According to him, the promoters of the Inland Dry Port have already submitted all the required documents to the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission where they are currently undergoing proceessing

Dr. Ukeyima described the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port as a strategic national project that will boost international trade, reduce pressure on the nation’s seaports, facilitate cargo movement to the hinterland and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

He noted that the project forms part of the Nigeria–Benin Republic Trade Corridor and will strengthen commercial activities between Nigeria and neighbouring Niger Republic, positioning Kebbi State as a major logistics and trade hub.

The Executive Secretary added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to the development of inland dry ports across the country as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving transportation, logistics and economic growth.

He further disclosed that plans were underway for the establishment of a Vehicles Transit Park along the Lagos-Sokoto Super Highway to provide a secure rest point for truck drivers and traders while promoting commerce and improving road safety.

Governor Nasir Idris welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the Kebbi State Government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the project.

He assured the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, the promoters and all relevant federal agencies of the state’s full support, stressing that his administration would work closely with them to remove all obstacles and ensure the timely take-off of the Inland Dry Port.

When completed, the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port is expected to improve import and export activities, lower transportation costs, attract local and foreign investments, generate employment opportunities and further establish Kebbi State as a major gateway for regional and international
