The Nigerian Army has detained two soldiers for allegedly providing unauthorised security at the wedding ceremony of social media personalities Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and Jarvis, held in Lekki over the weekend.

The soldiers, identified as Privates Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Ukpai Onyinyechi, are attached to the Nigerian Army Medical Services and Hospital in Obalende, Lagos. Their arrest was confirmed by the spokesperson for the 81 Division, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, who disclosed that both personnel were taken into custody on Tuesday.

The soldiers were reportedly arrested over an alleged unauthorised deployment after videos from the wedding circulated widely on social media, showing them dressed in military uniform while performing security duties and escorting guests.

One of the viral clips allegedly captured a soldier escorting TikTok personality Ivanna through the crowded venue, triggering widespread reactions online.

The incident sparked public criticism, with many Nigerians questioning whether serving military personnel were authorised to provide security at a private celebrity event.

The deployment also drew attention because it appeared to contradict the Federal Government’s directive withdrawing police and military escorts from individuals not legally entitled to such protection as part of efforts to strengthen national security.

The Nigerian Army has repeatedly maintained that its personnel are prohibited from engaging in unauthorised private security assignments or participating in deployments without official approval.

Sources said preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the deployment and establish whether other military personnel were involved.

Peller and Jarvis’ wedding attracted several entertainers, influencers and other prominent guests, with videos from the event dominating social media throughout the weekend.
