Nigeria Sends 12 Coaches For FIVB Level I Coaching Certification

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has announced the participation of 12 Nigerian coaches in the FIVB Level I Coaching Certification Course scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from August 3 to 8, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s coaching capacity.

The selected participants comprise national team players, former international athletes and coaches from various volleyball clubs across Nigeria.

The delegation includes seven female coaches and five male coaches, reflecting the federation’s commitment to producing a new generation of technically competent coaches while promoting greater female representation in volleyball coaching.

According to the NVBF in a statement on Sunday, the initiative is a strategic investment aimed at addressing the shortage of qualified female volleyball coaches in Nigeria, empowering women in coaching and enhancing the overall standard of volleyball development across the country.

The Nigerian delegation is led by Dorothy Egbum and also includes Francisca Ikhiede, Lydia Ayisa Yakubu, Anthony Damilola Taiwo, Monday Dada, Friday Peter, Morris Sefeiya Dikyai, Hajara Audu, Bose Melaiye, Bukky Oluwatosin, Sewuese Iorkua and George Samson Malaika.

The federation disclosed that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) made the final selection of the 12 participants from an initial list of 15 candidates submitted after a screening exercise conducted by the Chairman of the NVBF Technical Committee/Secretariat.

The NVBF expressed confidence that the certification programme would equip the coaches with modern technical knowledge and practical skills that would positively impact volleyball coaching and athlete development in Nigeria.

Congratulating the selected participants, the federation wished them a successful training programme, expressing optimism that the experience gained in Ghana would contribute significantly to the continued growth and development of volleyball in the country.
