The Federal Government has congratulated Dr András Baka on his election as the new President of Hungary, describing his judicial experience as an asset to the country’s leadership.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, conveyed Nigeria’s congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Nigeria.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria commended the Hungarian National Assembly for the successful conclusion of the presidential election and wished Baka a successful tenure.
The ministry said Baka’s “distinguished career in the Hungarian and international judiciary”, including his service as President of Hungary’s Supreme Court and Judge of the European Court of Human Rights, had prepared him for the responsibilities of the presidency.
Nigeria also highlighted his commitment to “the rule of law, constitutional governance and the independence of institutions”, describing these qualities as valuable in the discharge of his duties as Head of State.
The Federal Government expressed confidence that under Baka’s leadership, Hungary would continue to advance “democratic values, the rule of law, institutional stability and national unity” while strengthening its engagement with the international community.
Nigeria further reaffirmed the importance it attaches to its longstanding relations with Hungary and expressed its readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation in political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, education, culture, science and technology.
The government also pledged to promote constructive people-to-people exchanges between both countries.
“Nigeria wishes Dr András Baka a successful tenure in office and assures the Government and people of Hungary of Nigeria’s continued friendship and commitment to strengthening the bonds of cooperation and understanding between both countries,” the ministry said.
