NDC Gives Update on Submission of Candidates’ Credentials to INEC, Reveals Next Move

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, has congratulated its candidates after the Independent National Electoral Commission published their names and credentials, describing the development as a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

NDC gave the update in a statement shared on its X handle on Tuesday.

According to the opposition party, the publication of its candidates’ particulars by INEC marked the successful completion of a key stage in the electoral process.

“Congratulations to all our candidates whose names and credentials have been successfully published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” the party said.

The party said its candidates emerged through a merit-based selection process that prioritised competence, integrity and capacity.

“Our candidates in many places were elected on the basis of their competence, integrity, and capacity, and we trust that the Nigerian people will massively support our party as a credible alternative,” the statement read.

The party also announced plans to launch a campaign tagged #MeetOurCandidates, through which it said it would introduce its candidates to the public and highlight their competence, achievements and track records ahead of the elections.

“We will be doing a series called #MeetOurCandidates, where we will be highlighting their competence, achievements, and track records,” it added.

Among the candidates whose particulars have been published by INEC are the NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, and his running mate, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

Their names and credentials were displayed by the electoral commission alongside those of other presidential candidates contesting the 2027 general election, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The party further said it was rooted in ideology and pledged to distinguish itself through governance anchored on its stated principles.

“We are a political party rooted in ideology, and we promise to do things differently while delivering on our promises to Nigerians,” the statement said.

The party called for support from the public. “The alternative is here, and we call on the Nigerian people to trust and support us,” it said.

INEC’s publication of candidates’ particulars is one of the statutory stages in the election timetable preceding the commencement of campaigns. The display allows members of the public to inspect the personal particulars and credentials submitted by candidates seeking elective offices and, where necessary, raise any concerns in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Tuesday’s announcement comes weeks after the NDC confirmed it had secured access to INEC’s candidate nomination portal following administrative and legal processes that had delayed the submission of its candidates’ particulars. The party had earlier disclosed that it concluded its primaries before uploading the names of its candidates to the commission’s portal after gaining access.
