Meet twin brothers who are both catholic priests

The Catholic Church in Zimbabwe has celebrated a historic milestone after twin brothers, Fr. Francelino Joachim Machirika and Fr. Franklin Joachim Machirika, were ordained as priests.

The brothers are believed to be Zimbabwe’s first known set of twin Catholic priests.

The ordination ceremony brought together family members, clergy, friends and hundreds of faithful who gathered to witness the special occasion.

For the Machirika family, the event marked the fulfilment of years of prayer, sacrifice and faith.

Born on the same day and raised together, the brothers shared a close bond throughout their childhood.

As they grew older, they discovered they also shared the same calling to serve God through the Catholic priesthood.

Instead of following separate paths, they chose to pursue their vocation together, encouraging and supporting each other throughout their journey.

Like all Catholic priests, the twins underwent years of formation, theological studies, spiritual growth and pastoral training before their ordination.

Throughout the process, they remained united and drew strength from one another during both the challenges and successes they experienced.

Their story has inspired Catholics across Zimbabwe and beyond, with many describing the twin ordination as a rare and historic moment.

Many people who know the brothers said their strong relationship helped them remain committed to their calling and inspired fellow seminarians.

As newly ordained priests, Fr. Francelino and Fr. Franklin will now begin serving the Catholic Church.

Although they are expected to work in different communities, their responsibilities will include celebrating Mass, administering the sacraments, preaching the Gospel, supporting those in need and serving their congregations.

Their ordination is being celebrated as a significant moment in the history of the Catholic Church in Zimbabwe and a source of inspiration for young people considering a religious vocation.
