Manchester United confirm change in kit over UEFA rules

Manchester United have been forced to make a change in their recently launched third kit for Champions League matches this season due to a conflict with UEFA rules.

The Red Devils recently unveiled their new Adidas third strip, which showcases a minimalist rendition of their principal sponsor Snapdragon’s logo, featuring solely the company’s fireball emblem on the front of the shirt.

However, UEFA regulations require that all clubs utilise the same version of a sponsor’s branding across all registered kits during their competitions.

Consequently, Manchester United will now incorporate the complete “Snapdragon” wordmark beneath the logo whenever they don the third kit in the Champions League this season.

In a brief statement released on their official website, the club confirmed the alteration in a statement on its website.

Man United said, “The Reds are set to wear the jersey when necessary across domestic competitions this term, although UEFA regulations dictate that the ‘Snapdragon’ wordmark will be added to our players’ shirts for any Champions League matches in which it is worn.

“This is due to the requirement that the same version of a logo must be utilised across all of a club’s kits in the tournament, necessitating that the sponsor on the third strip aligns with that on our new home and away kits, which include the wordmark,” the statement elaborated.

Manchester United donned their third kit, characterised by an ivory base and red accents, during their preseason encounter with AC Milan on Saturday, August 15.

The match ended in a 4-2 defeat for the Premier League giants at the Tarczynski Arena in Poland.
