Lagos announces traffic diversion as Oke-Afa Bridge rehabilitation begins

The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion plan ahead of the rehabilitation of Oke-Afa Bridge in Isolo Local Government Area.

The rehabilitation work, scheduled to begin on Friday, August 28, 2026, is expected to last three weeks and end on Friday, September 18, 2026.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, explaining that the project would be executed in two phases to minimise disruption to motorists.

The first phase will focus on the outbound Isolo-to-Ejigbo section of the bridge and run from August 28 to September 11. The second phase, covering the inbound Ejigbo-to-Isolo section, will take place from September 12 to September 18.

As part of the traffic management arrangement, the bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic during the rehabilitation period, with motorists required to use designated alternative routes.

Phase One: Isolo to Ejigbo

During the first phase, motorists travelling from Isolo towards Ejigbo will be diverted onto the Isolo-bound carriageway at Pako Roundabout. Traffic will operate in both directions along the affected section before motorists rejoin the main carriageway at Mobil Filling Station.

Vehicles travelling from Ejigbo will continue to move freely, sharing the carriageway with Ejigbo-bound traffic between Mobil Filling Station and Pako Roundabout. They will regain unrestricted access to the road after reaching the roundabout.

Phase Two: Ejigbo to Isolo

For the second phase, motorists travelling from Ejigbo towards Isolo will be diverted onto the Ejigbo-bound carriageway at Mobil Filling Station. Traffic will again operate in both directions before rejoining the main carriageway at Pako Roundabout.

Motorists approaching from Isolo will maintain free movement while sharing the carriageway with Isolo-bound traffic between Pako Roundabout and Mobil Filling Station. They will regain full access to the road after reaching the filling station.

Osiyemi said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, would be deployed throughout the rehabilitation period to regulate traffic and minimise delays for road users.

He added that an emergency tow vehicle would also be stationed within the area to respond promptly to vehicle breakdowns and facilitate the removal of obstructing vehicles.

The commissioner urged motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic officials, stressing that the temporary closure was necessary to facilitate the rehabilitation works.

The project is being undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works, through the Office of the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, in partnership with Messrs. Strabic Construction Limited.

The state government appealed to motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and comply with the diversion arrangements throughout the duration of the project.
