The Kwara State Police Command has commenced Operation VELVET, a continuous enforcement exercise aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic laws and improving road safety across the state.

The operation began on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

The command, under Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi, said the exercise would focus on promoting responsible driving, enforcing traffic regulations and protecting the lives and property of road users.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, officers would ensure that motorists comply with traffic regulations and that vehicles on the roads have valid registration and other legally required documents.

The command advised motorists to ensure their vehicles and documentation were in order before embarking on journeys.

It warned that motorists found violating traffic laws or operating vehicles without the required documents would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing laws and due process.

The police stressed that Operation VELVET would be sustained as a continuous enforcement programme across the state.

Commissioner Adekimi urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with police personnel, obey traffic regulations and drive responsibly.

He assured residents that the command remained committed to improving road safety, protecting lives and property, and maintaining peace and public order across Kwara State.
