The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a popular TikTok content creator, Namadina Tudunwada, over claims that he encouraged young people to engage in fornication through videos shared on his social media account.

The board’s Deputy Commander-General, Mujahid Aminuddeen, announced the arrest in a statement released on Monday.

According to the statement, Hisbah officials in Tudunwada Local Government Area arrested the TikToker after a video surfaced online in which he compared the cost of marriage with the cost of engaging in illicit sexual relationships.

In the video, Namadina reportedly said that fornication could cost around N2,000, while getting married might require about N200,000. Hisbah said it believes the comparison could discourage young people from choosing marriage.

The board accused the content creator of promoting immoral behaviour by presenting fornication as a cheaper and easier option than marriage.

“The suspect was arrested after making statements capable of misleading young people and promoting immoral behaviour,” the statement said.

Aminuddeen said the board would carry out a full investigation before deciding on the next legal steps.

“We will expand our investigation and take the appropriate action in accordance with the law,” he said.

The Hisbah Board also warned social media influencers and content creators to avoid publishing material that could be seen as encouraging immorality or going against the values of society.

It stressed that online content has consequences and should be shared with moral and religious responsibility in mind.
