Kalu Urges Nigerian Youths To Take Active Role In Nation-Building

Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged Nigerian youths to take an active role in nation-building, stressing the need for greater empowerment and opportunities for young people.

Kalu, in a message to mark the 2026 International Youth Day, said Nigerian youths possessed the creativity, courage and determination required to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.

He acknowledged the challenges confronting many young Nigerians but urged them not to lose hope, assuring them that their potential remained critical to Nigeria’s future.

“I understand that these are not easy times for many young Nigerians, but I urge you not to lose hope.

Nigeria believes in your potential, and we must continue working to create greater opportunities and an environment where every young person can thrive,” Kalu said.

The senator said youth empowerment should go beyond rhetoric, stressing the importance of equipping young people with relevant skills, supporting entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for them to participate meaningfully in the economy and governance.

According to him, millions of Nigerian youths are already pursuing their dreams, acquiring skills, building businesses and contributing to national development despite prevailing challenges.

“Our youths are not only leaders of tomorrow; you are important partners and leaders in the Nigeria of today,” he said.

Kalu urged young Nigerians to remain resilient and continue investing in themselves, saying their present circumstances should not determine their future.

“Keep believing in yourselves. Keep working hard. Keep hope alive. The challenges of today will not define your tomorrow,” he said.

He congratulated Nigerian youths on International Youth Day and reaffirmed the importance of creating an enabling environment where young people can thrive and play a central role in building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
