KACRAN condemns banditry, vigilante violence in Niger

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has condemned the renewed violence in parts of Niger State, blaming both bandits and some vigilante groups for what it described as the “merciless killing of innocent citizens, arson and wanton destruction of property.”
In a statement signed by its National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, and made available to journalists on Thursday, KACRAN said it was alarmed by credible media reports, including a BBC Hausa interview and viral video clips showing acts of brutality allegedly carried out in the name of reprisals or self-defence.
“It is painful and unacceptable that both groups have taken the law into their own hands.
“These criminal acts are not only unlawful but are inflicting deep and irreparable wounds on our communities, destroying the very future they claim to protect,” the statement said.
The association noted that the attacks had rendered thousands homeless, forced families to abandon farmlands and livelihoods, and threatened the age-long peace between communities in the state.
The group urged bandits to lay down their arms, release hostages unconditionally and embrace peace.
KACRAN also acknowledged the role of vigilante groups in protecting communities but warned that reprisal attacks and jungle justice were “counterproductive and unlawful.”
“Chasing your neighbours into forests where they may be recruited by criminal elements is a direct path to greater insecurity,” it said.
