JUST IN: FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday for Eid ul Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The declaration was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on Friday, August 21.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion, urging Nigerians to reflect on the values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.

He encouraged Nigerians to embrace these values, irrespective of their religious affiliations.

“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them,” he added.

The minister also urged Nigerians to use the celebration as an opportunity to pray for peace, unity and stability across the country.

He said national cohesion remained a collective responsibility and called on citizens to celebrate the occasion with restraint and mutual respect.

Tunji-Ojo wished the Muslim community a peaceful and joyous Eid ul Mawlid, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
