Jigawa approves low-key programme to mark 35th anniversary

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved a low-key programme of activities to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the creation of Jigawa State on August 27, 1991, during the administration of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, and issued to newsmen.
According to the statement, the council approved recommendations by a committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Aminu Usman, aimed at institutionalising future anniversary celebrations and developing a framework for State Merit Awards and Honours.
The council also approved the conduct of special prayers in all Juma’at mosques across the state as part of the anniversary activities.
The prayers will be coordinated through the Forum of Juma’at Mosque Imams, Emirate Councils and the Council of Ulama under the direction of the Secretary to the State Government.
The statement said the anniversary would also provide an opportunity to honour the founding fathers of Jigawa State and recognise the contributions of past leaders, public servants, traditional institutions, development partners and other citizens who have contributed to the growth and development of the state.
It added that the activities were designed to reflect on Jigawa’s 35-year journey, celebrate its achievements and acknowledge individuals and institutions that have played significant roles in its development.
Jigawa State was carved out of Kano State.
