INEC Restores Four State Assembly Constituencies In Delta, Kogi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states following court judgments directing their reinstatement.

INEC disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.

The restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.

The Commission said the restoration was carried out “pursuant to the Judgment of the Courts directing the restoration of the additional constituencies in the two states.”

INEC has fixed August 21 to 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries for the restored constituencies.

The period will coincide with party primaries for bye-elections to fill vacancies in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency of Delta State and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State.

Elections into the affected constituencies have been scheduled for September 19, 2026.

INEC said, “For the avoidance of doubt, all other timelines and activities contained in the already published revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election shall apply to the restored Constituencies.”

The Commission also directed political parties to submit notices of their respective primaries before the scheduled dates.

“Political Parties are requested to submit Notices of their various Primaries to the Commission before their scheduled dates,” the electoral body said.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to the electoral process, stating, “The Commission remains committed to ensuring credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes.”
